Brentford’s Julian Jeanvier was carried of on a stretcher after a 10-minute stoppage

Brentford secured a top-half Championship place with a commanding victory over fellow mid-table finishers Preston.

Home defender Julian Jeanvier was carried off on a stretcher after a head injury in the opening seconds at Griffin Park, leading to 13 minutes of added time in the first half.

Frenchman Jeanvier was knocked unconscious but recovered to take part in a lap of applause with his Bees team-mates after the match.

The Bees took the lead in during that period of injury time, centre-back Ezri Konsa sweeping home his first goal for the club from a ball across the box that was not cleared.

Neal Maupay turned in his 25th league goal of the season to double Brentford’s advantage before substitute Marcus Forss fired in a third, low into the bottom corner from outside the box.

Sergi Canos was the architect for Maupay’s strike, pulling a ball back from the byline, while Finnish forward Forss’ goal was his first in the Championship.

Brentford finish 11th after a 14th home league win this term, with Alex Neil’s Preston three places and three points behind.
